Calling all Zeitgeist Ladies!
Just to make you all aware - There is a women's meeting on TeamSpeak every LAST Sunday of the month which makes the next one Sun June 27 at 10 pm BST (British Summer Time). Please come along to meet other zg women, share experiences and offer ideas towards getting more women involved in the movement. The room is near the bottom of the list called 'Women's support group', a name we will vote to change. Any ideas for an alternative name?
Quote:
Reason for the Room:
As we still live in a world where some areas are more male dominated than others, some women in the movement felt a room where this is not an issue would be beneficial to them. Although most men in the movement have moved on from seeing women as 'less capable', this is not universal yet. Men from cultures where women are not viewed as 'equal' are involved in the movement and having the need for a separate room should highlight this. It has been set up so that the room is not exclusive but rather inclusive as men are welcome to listen in, participate in the chat but just not speak in order to let women deal with their own issues on this unique occasion.
This raises an interesting thought about segregation/integration.
I believe integration and understanding of dissimilar groups is very important in a cooperative society, but people seem to want to spend some 'alone' time with an exclusive group of people who share something in common (same gender, similar disabilities, similar interests, similar backgrounds/experiences, etc.). People want to relate to other people who are similar in some way to themselves.
We need to allow people good opportunities to relate to similar people, and we need people of mixed backgrounds to live and work (cooperate) together so that they have an understanding of each other.
So how can we maintain both of these seemingly contradictory issues? How can we prevent people from clumping together (which can lead to lack of understanding of other groups) in a way that doesn't cause any amount of upset?
Answers on a postcard please.
I instantly dislike this idea. Surely if you have taken onboard everything in the video then this is an irrational thought. It is not inclusive it is divisive. Thus it seems that the point of this movement is being missed.
Just my personal opinion. I am sure that it will be discussed. I believe that at the stage of us getting involoved on these forums that we had already decided that feminism, and sepratist rationales were flawed. I also personally believe that we should be at a higher stage of emotional maturity so that pettiness and miniscule symantecs are largly irrelevant. I mean, I would certainly never wander into a room with ladies and start to rant on about Football and boobies.
Sorry this is last minute notice - inviting all women.... Meeting tonight Sept 26th at 19:00 GMT on TS
The topic for this meeting will be a discussion based on Eve Ensler, performer and activist. She’s best known for “The Vagina Monologues.” Her new book is “I am an Emotional Creature: the Secret Life of Girls Around the World.” She is also founder of the group V-Day, which works to end violence against women and girls across the globe. Below is the link to the NPR interview.
She has also done a TED Talk and you can find more videos on Youtube.
We're fairly certain men in the movement will also find the value in the work of Eve Ensler.
Please familiarize yourself with her work if you plan on attending this meeting. : )
Should we start a Google Group for ZW?

I would strongly discourage any form of segregation or 'exclusive' groups - especially based on gender, race, or religion. It really goes against the whole concept of equality and global co-operation.
I understand your first reaction to this jhabbott, mine was similar but forming this opportunity for women has been a good thing to encourage more women into the movement and to become active. You are welcome to join the meeting - there were many men there last night. After about 90 minutes, the men are invited to speak too. Its not segregation or exclusive at all.
May you always walk in beauty,
Myra

I understand some of the concerns on this subject, but surely if the women want to host a meeting of this sort I really don't see a problem with this, it just means that the women would like to chat amongst themselves, after all we can listen in and when they have finished join in with them and discuss the meeting, I found it most interesting i have nothing to fear on this, after all they also are my partners in the movement, we must respect their wishes as they would respect ours I'm sure, the women are and have been a most important part to this movement they have a lot to offer, so maybe us guy's should deflate our chests and listen. look forward to the next one . Respect Mark
I certainly think it's worthwhile to capture the thoughts/opinions/criticisms/concerns/etc. of any/all 'groups' of people, and if those groups feel more comfortable talking without non-group people present then that's fine. I think I have simply misunderstood the pitch/purpose of this, possibly from the "women's meeting" and "women's support group" labels.
My main concern is that:
a) Any single group (individuals who identify with each other through common/shared traits) identifies potential prejudices against them from other individuals.
b) Their solution to this is to form a separate internal 'group' to deal with the problem.
When a better solution would be to find a way to educate the other individuals, including them where possible in the solution.
Guys this to all of you on the comments i just see.Why do some people have such a problem with ladies having meetings. I mean for god sake is there not enough stress, heartache, & evil in this world without people bloody getting on their high horse over a meeting WITH JUST LADIES ???
Myra is a amazing lady who takes time out for all of us to help with The Venus Project & Zeitgeist. She does it for no monetary gain what so ever.
Bloody hell guys nearly every comment was a winge on this forum what's the big deal what are you guys worried we will talk about what a sexy stud Peter Joseph is or how we wish Jacques Fresco was the father we never had ????

It seems to me that it's you who is on their high horse! A very reactionary and hysterical response indeed.
I agree with jhabbott, there is no need for segregation AT ALL! We're ALL in this TOGETHER and there should be no feminist agenda within ZM, just as there should be no MALE ONLY agenda. Period.
