Next BOURNEMOUTH Meeting at The Christopher Creeke 9/12/10

There will be a meeting in Bournemouth on Thursday 5th August at 6.30 pm at The Christopher Creeke, in Holdenhurst Road.

http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-christopher-creeke

The view, at the last meeting, was that we had shared so many thoughts and feelings about how to progress, we needed to go home and collect our thoughts, prior to coming up with definite plans. Though, one participant has already had dialogue with a venue that is keen to hold video showings for us, so that might be 'on the cards' for as soon as August.

All welcome. I look forward to seeing you.

Re: Bournemouth Meet 5th August The Christopher Creeke 6.30p

I'm aware that this meeting is on the Homepage, but, thinking that anyone in the Bournemouth area might approach the forum via "View Active Topics", I'm aware this meeting is no longer on the front page. I recall I saw there was some mechanism to raise the topic to the top of the list, but cannot find it.

So, a reminder .........

Re: Bournemouth Meet 5th August The Christopher Creeke 6.30p

As can be expected, during the holiday period, the number attending the meeting, yesterday evening, was diminished (from eleven on 22nd July) to six (i.e. five who had already met, plus one newcomer). However, being in a smaller group enabled us to have a more in depth discussion of our aims.
We used this as a guide for our agenda:
1. News and updates about The Zeitgeist Movement
2. Introductions from new and existing members
3. What The Zeitgeist Movement advocates
4. Updates for activism and future events
5. Question and answer session for members
and discussed the "Meeting Tips" that had been suggested:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2614737/Meeting-Tips.pdf

Earlier in the day, I had sent out suggested reading/viewing:
"The Best that Money Can't Buy"
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2614737/The-Best-That-Money-Cant-Buy.pdf
Watch Activists Orientation Guide
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/site/orientation-guide
Watch Where Are We Now?
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/site/where-are-we-now
Watch Where Are We Going?
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/site/where-are-we-going
Watch Social Pathology
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/site/social-pathology
And there is plenty more information here:
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/

Our discussion initially focussed on the nature of the public's concerns when initiating contact. (There was a tendency for our own opinions to be centred on the dreadfulness of the monetary system.) We agreed our approaches to the public needed to be "positive". We agreed we needed to be able to envisage and articulate how life would be in a Resource Based Economy and discussed aspects of the RBE.
It was suggested that the "Bullet Points" on the Homepage: "What is The Zeitgeist Movement?" and "What is a Resource Based Economy?" are useful tools:
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=1861&p...
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1890&p=9700

We agreed that our main task, at present, (prior to formal Project Teams) was to increase the Group Membership, while doing what we can, individually, handing out DVDs and flyers and speaking with those we encountered. ADDENDUM and Orientation Guide DVDs to (watch and) download can be found on this page:
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/site/take-action
and flyers can be found by "clicking" on on the words "Tool Kit" (in red) on the top line.
We currently meet around a couple of tables in a pub, but need a venue (with a bar and wi-fi) that gives greater flexibility and room for expansion. We'd be grateful if anyone can suggest somewhere.
We understand that arrangements for the screening( of Zeitgeist: Addendum are going ahead, but, as yet, there is no confirmed date(.
We identified that we needed practice in speaking with the public and it was agreed that "role play" would be helpful ...... especially at responding to difficult questions. Although we could do this amongst ourselves, as a "double-edged sword", 2 members of the group will approach the university to ask if we might involve them.
I discovered that one of our group regularly listens to UK Online Meetings on Teamspeak on Monday evenings. (I had been, mistakenly, under the impression that all these could be listened to at a later date.)

We will meet on Thursday 2nd September at 6.30pm. Unless a preferred venue is found, this will be at The Christopher Creeke. All welcome.
Depending on news of Addendum Screening, there may be an additional meeting prior to this date.
(Sorry this is lengthy, with so many links, but I'm trying to save typing, by sending a link to this post to several members.)

Be great to have you at the meeting, Stubbs. You were a lively and constructive contributer at the first one. We missed you last time.

And I must try to remember to place an obvious Zeitgeist Movement, Venus Project or Resource-Based Economy notice on our table, so that any newcomers can recognise us.

Feral,

I think the last sign I made was left in the pub on the first meeting (I must learn to drink less ), I will make another table sign for tonight using the front page of The Venus Project Calendar 2010 as before.

See you there,

Ross

Re: Next BOURNEMOUTH Meeting at The Christopher Creeke

We had a lively, enjoyable and productive meeting, on Thursday night, 2nd September. Although our number has diminished, we remain optimistic.

Participants:
Puddletownelvis, Chalkiex, one other (who is not registered with this website) and myself.
One of our group sent “apologies”. I look forward to meeting Godless, who will soon be back in the UK.

News and updates:
I reported that The Venus Project World Lecture Tour in Bristol on 21st August was excellent.
Chalkiex reported that jimshock had been in contact with him concerning education.
Puddletownelvis reported that he had found 2 local businesses that could provide us with suitable, well-equipped, roomy venues at no cost. These would comfortably accommodate either a small meeting or a public film screening.
I brought along a print-out of the new leaflet:
http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/sites/default/files/toolkit/Zeitge...
and a DVD given to me by Steve at Bristol.

Discussion:
We enjoyed an animated discussion on a variety of topics, including developments in technology, the monetary system, education, activism and The Zeitgeist Movement growth, structure and direction.
Puddletownelvis and Chalkiex will continue to work on education and approaches to the University.
We considered our aspirations for the group and the contents and structure. We acknowledged that meetings needed to be appealing. We discussed whether the role of chairing the meeting and deciding its contents/agenda should rotate among the members of the group.
We discussed the South West England and UK meetings on Teamspeak, and the possibility of having our own channel in the future.
I mentioned http://www.meetup.com as a means of publicising meetings and activities.
We had a look at the proposed, more suitable venues. One was closed, but we were able to have a look inside the other and discuss with the owner.
After seeing photos/videos? of the guys in Manchester (or would it have been Bolton?) Chalkiex is now keen on the idea of a stall.
We agreed the new TZM leaflet was excellent and could be given to anyone ... including children.
We discussed printing leaflets and producing DVDs.

Agreed action:
Puddletownelvis and Chalkiex understand their plans for education (even if I’ve forgotten).

The next meeting will be at one of the 2 proposed venues, around the end of September or beginning of October. We will aim to have the meetings on a fixed Thursday of the month (e.g. 1st Thurs, 2nd Thurs, last Thurs).

We currently have no issues with content or chairing of our (small) meetings, so will make no change at present.

Whilst we agreed a Bournemouth Zeitgeist Meetup page was a good idea, (on reflection) I think it needs to be a South West England page.

Continue to try to increase membership. I will do an email “trawl” of new members since my previous “trawl” (7/8/10?). I will keep email contact with those in the area, who have expressed interest, but have not yet been able to get to Bournemouth.

Note to self: Don't overlook idea of stall, leaflets, DVDs, Q&A role-pay, movie screening, banner? breathing in, breathing out.

Sorry. My brain is not working at all. So, if the drivel above bears no relation to the meeting you attended, I’d be eternally grateful if anyone who was there could correct me. Thanks.

And did Puddletownelvis notice whether there were sufficient chairs in the venue we went inside to hold a video screening? There seemed to be loads in the other one.

Re: Next BOURNEMOUTH Meeting at The Christopher Creeke

The next BOURNEMOUTH Meeting will be on Thursday 21st October from 6.30pm
at The Christopher Creeke, 2 Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8AD

http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-christopher-creeke

I'm afraid this is later in the month than previously intended, as Puddletownelvis and myself have other engagements. I hope this is acceptable.

The Christopher Creeke has been chosen, again, (as opposed to the other venues), so that we have a visible presence and might be able to have some of the new leaflets on display for anyone in the viscinity to pick up (provided the pub agrees).

We can use this as a guide for our agenda:

1. News and updates about The Zeitgeist Movement
2. Introductions from new and existing members
3. What The Zeitgeist Movement advocates
4. Updates for activism, progress since last meeting (see above) and future events
5. Question and answer session for members

And a reminder that there is a South West England Online Meeting on Teamspeak on Tuesday 28th September.

Notes of meeting on 21st October 2010

Participants:

Godless, creebefu, Sanguine, Puddletownelvis, feral.

Discussion:

It was a lively, animated and inspiring evening. With 3 members, who had not attended before, there were lots of fresh ideas, thoughts and skills put forward on all aspects of The Zeitgeist Movement, The Venus Project, Resource-Based Economy and monetary system.
There was some discussion about financing group projects.
We agreed rotating the role of chair and preparing for the meetings should be rotated.
We agreed that meeting dates should continue to be set on meeting-by-meeting basis (rather than further ahead).
Gave information that Teamspeak meetings included:
UK Chapter - every Monday at 9pm.
South West England - last Tuesday of each month at 8pm - next one 26th October.
And there was some proposal discussed, that I considered really useful and valuable, but I cannot recall what it was.

Agreed action:

2 venues will be approached regarding showing Zeitgeist: Addendum and Zeitgeist: Moving Forward.
We each took leaflets (folded and Xmas) to distribute.
We will exchange videos and information.
We will look at and consider www.meetup.com
We will post on http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=291057592271&v=wall
We have exchanged email addresses and phone numbers and will maintain communications on progress between now and the next meeting.

(Other aims, from previous meetings, by way of a reminder: Q & A role play, education, DVDs, banner?)

Next meeting Thursday 18th November 2010 at 6.30pm.

Please feel free to add anything I've forgotten.

Next meeting Thursday 18th November 2010

Hi All,

Just a quick post to say that we agreed, at the last meeting, to meet next on Thursday 18th November at 6.30pm.

We didn't confirm the venue, but, as I put in the website's event calender:

http://www.thezeitgeistmovementuk.com/event/bournemouth-meeting-2

...... it was likely to be at The Christopher Creeke, it might be safer to stick with that.

I hope it is less crowded than last time, because it got a bit chilly on the verandah.

(In the event of this being the case, we'll hang around at The Christopher Creeke until 7.30, before seeking out somewhere warmer/less crowded.)

The link below gives a brief recollection of last time's discussion and agreed actions, which will be included in the agenda.

Hi Bouremouth

I live on Dartmoor and we hope to have a group her soon. Can I just ask about calling yourself South West Chapter? Did you choose that? I personally dont perceive Bournemouth as in the South West and it would be a great distance for me to travel. Please enlighten me! Well done for getting a group up and running!

Hi Oz.

Thank you.
I did not choose to place Bournemouth in South West; it was there when I joined. The site has a South West England and South East England Region; there is no Mid SOUTH. So Bomo is more west than east?

There is a well-established group in Bristol. And there are some promising noises coming from Plymouth and Exeter.

I also agree with ozbizbozzle, I am from Plymouth, South Devon, and I do not consider Bournemouth to be anywhere near the south west. It would be a great distance for anyone from the southwest to travel to Bournemouth as there is no direct motorway route. It will be great when a chapter opens a bit closer to us as i look forward to participating in the process of moving forward.

Hi, how did the meeting go and what was discussed?
I've been so overwhelmed with university work that unfortunately I couldn't make it.
However, I have agreed with the Global cinema committee at BU to screen Zeitgeist: Moving forward on the 16th of March as it's close to Z-day. We can also plan an event around that if we like.

Meeting update (brief)

Hi Janne,

Sorry to hear you were so busy, hopefully see you next time. I'm sure Feral will do one of her fantastic and detailed reports of the meeting, but in the meantime a brief run through:
5 attendees, main action is to talk further with the Lighthouse in Poole about showing ZG MF in mid January - they were due to be approached today. (Cheers Chris and Rob)

A lively meeting with some searching questions and lively banter curtesy of Feral's brother Martin - long way from convincing him I feel, but as a lesson in 'facing the public', an interesting evening.

One of my actions was to contact you Janne and ask about progress at the Global cinema committee - so thank you for the update, that is excellent news and we can start putting actions together for this at the next meeting.

Regards,

Ross

Hi Gandy,

Thanks for the question, there is a Teamspeak for South West area held every month but currently not a specific one for Bournemouth. Could be something to setup when sufficient interest.

If anyone is interested in a monthly TS to supplement the Bournemouth meeting then reply to this or send me a message directly. If enough interest I can look into setting something up.

Come on in, the waters lovely.......[Brrrrrrrrr]

I am on Teamspeak right now with a user created channel labelled 'Bournemouth meeting' (near the bottom of the channel lists).

I am at the Christopher Creeke right now for the monthly meeting, no-one else is here yet, more cider for me though:-)

Thought I would have a play with Teamspeak and practice creating channels as the pub has let me have 24 hrs free wifi access. I will keep the channel open until I need to get my train (about 22:30) or my battery runs out (approx 21:50).

Free free to have a chat on Teamspeak, whether youv'e been to a meeting before or not.

If you're close enough, pop on down - I'll even buy you a drink!

I am in the far end with a 'Venus Project' popup display on the table.

UPDATE: 21:51
Had a good chat with Brian from Cardiff on Teamspeak (he says hello Gerri ), and I found some power after my laptop gave out just after 9pm. Will stay on for a bit more, then call it a day. Cracking pints of Stowford Press. PS, now upstairs in the pub - warmer and has power.
