The second Bristol ZM meeting took place in a badly sheltered coffee garden heavily attacked by rain. As with the first meeting it was another opportunity to compare thoughts and understandings of the VP.
Briefing of issues raised:
> The political structure in the UK and the EU.
> The educational structure in the UK and how it does not allow advancement but instead perpetuates the status quo.
> Whether the “Zeitgeist Orientation Guide” or “Addendum” should be used to communicate the concepts of the ZM to the general public.
> In the future what will give people a sense of meaning as an individual (a continuation of Q1 on Peter Joseph’s Radio Address [15/07/09] – see below).
> Geothermal power – if the energy is being used from the centre of the earth, does this have any effect on the earth as a whole, and if so, in what way?
> The relevance and importance of traditional and cultural celebrations. Should we be celebrating mankind’s achievements in scientific understanding (Einstein Day, Tesla Day, etc.), as oppose to, or as well as, celebrating superstition (Xmas, Passover, etc.) and cultural “freedoms” that have the propensity to further divide and segregate society (Gay parade, etc.)?

An individual’s need for structure might explain why many gravitate toward religious groups or unnecessary 9 to 5 jobs. In the society proposed by the Venus Project what type of factors will contribute to a sense of community, structure and meaning on the behalf of the individual?

> Meaning, Structure and Community do not necessary have anything to do with 9 to 5 jobs even though there might be a social element.
> Church on Sunday is done in more of a social sense and not necessary religious.
George Carlin quote: people go to church to compare clothing.
> A RBE is based on cooperation and not competition so the cutthroat mentality of today will not be so prevalent and people will not see other people as a threat, therefore, people will not be afraid of each other.
> There will also be a lot more free time.
> There is far too much artificial stress in this system. It comes as no surprise when a postman/college student goes nuts with a gun. “No pressure release valve in this system.”
> “Stress – think about that as to what our social structure actually is.”
> In the Venus Project society the family would be restored as there would be time to actually nurture each other.
> Culture will flourish in a way where it deviates from a lot of the escape roots that are used today. Bars overloaded with people – this is a rejection of all the servitude that has been pushed over the week and therefore becoming intoxicated becomes a form of escape.
> Rather than arbitrary for money and property the new values will come from personal and social accomplishment.
> Individual meaning in this system is based upon how much status you have, which is based upon your socioeconomic status almost universally. This will no longer exist and there will have to be a reason as to why you are respected. This respect will be gained through a persons own personal integrity which will often be attributed to what they have contributed to society. It’s one thing to be self-motivated and to have discipline and understand yourself very well. And it’s another thing to apply this discipline and understanding to society and engage the world around you … so sense of value and personal accomplishment is really twofold; it’s your own personal value of understanding yourself and its also how you relate to your environment and what you do to contribute to that environment which is actually the contribution to yourself.
Margaret Mead quote: The most meaningful thing that people tend to reflect on is what they’ve done to contribute to others and help others.

As a continuation of the last meeting, themes and ideas have been expanded, in relation to ways to communicate the logic behind the ZM:
Ideas to spread social awareness:
> A stall in the city centre handing out flyers, copies of Zeitgeist Orientation Guide/Zeitgeist Addendum and allowing members of the public to ask questions concerning the Venus Project.
- Communicating the concepts behind the ZM involves a great deal of thought and understanding, so as not to come across as “preaching” such phases as “we believe …” must be delivered from a far more scientific and logical stand-point. Thus changing “belief” to “fact”. However, in turn this can give the impression of arrogance over the listener. This theme will be greatly discussed in future meetings.
- Without discriminative intent, it is clear that there are strong educational divisions in society. Therefore differing approaches are needed for various people. For example: Some may prefer the Orientation Guide over the Addendum film, then other may not have access to a DVD player/internet and so copies of the PDF might be useful. Again this is a very broad area, which will be discussed more in future meetings.
> A short story film of a young boy and his discovery of physics. It will look into his confusion over his understandings of physics and the actual applications of modern day society.
- I will aim to have a treatment ready by the end of this month. Allowing for the idea to be visualised and advanced upon.
