BZM Meeting 3

BZM Meeting 3

Location:
Boston Tea Party
Park Street
Date:
01/08/09
Time:
15:00 - 17:15

Briefing of issues raised:
> Civil society in Britain
- how the British are viewed by Europeans
- how the British have been altered by the social structure to lose touch with elements that make them human and able to connect with one another
> Question posed by member:
In the Venus Project society of the future the utilisation of technology will be to such a huge degree wouldn’t many of our skills be lost? For example, in the case of a polar shift and our technology perhaps being rendered useless would we not have “outgrown” the basic skills required to survive?
Generalisation of response from members:
In our society today we are being inoculated into a five day a week 9 to 5 job that generally allows for no connection to these basic skills. Therefore in today’s society we are more likely to loose these skills, as the system simply does not allow for the time (nor does it encourage) the learning of such skills. In fact it is beneficial for the monetary system if we loose these abilities in order to charge for the services.
> E-mailing Dale and finding out why the Ning ZM site is not recognised on the ZM .com site.

Ideas to spread social awareness:
> A decision has been made to make the BZM meetings weekly in order to accomplish more and inspire one another.
> A stall in the city centre handing out flyers, copies of Zeitgeist Orientation Guide/Zeitgeist Addendum and allowing members of the public to ask questions concerning the Venus Project.
- We will put the stall idea on the shelf until we have more members to the group.
> Olu will be creating a MySpace and Facebook group for BZM to bring more members to the group.
> Documentary/s based on various aspects of Bristol today, and how they will be in the future.
- A trip to the museum is being organised for a foundation on Bristol’s history.
- On the 12th of September is Bristol Open Doors
, which is a great opportunity to get some footage and information toward the film/s.

Other areas raised:
> Modern films and censorship (documentary suggestion: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTL3XMDwY0c]This Film is Not Yet Rated[/url]).

Weblink and Literature recommendations:

> What a Way to Go documentary.

> Stephen Fry Podcast.

> Zeitgeist TV.

These links above are in relation to the areas of discussion in the second meeting.
In many cases they help support the reasons to move toward the Venus Project ideologies and fundamental principles, but in no way do we at Bristol ZM wish to be directly associated with many of these links. They are used to emphasise and encourage the seeking of information and understanding.
